JOHN ALFRED DE ROSE

MAY 7, 1926 – DECEMBER 30, 2022



John Alfred De Rose was born in Flushing, MI on May 7, 1926. John was the 8th of 11 children born to Frank and Teresa (Spadafore) De Rose, Italian immigrants from Cosenza, Italy. John died December 30, 2022.

John attended schools in Flushing, Eaton Rapids and Lansing, graduated with a BA from the University of Detroit and a Juris Doctor from University of Detroit Law School in 1952.


During John’s career, he was manager at Allstate Insurance Company for more than 20 years. While working in the Michigan Legislature, John served as staff to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Additionally, he held both Insurance and Real Estate Licenses. In 1975 John was sworn in by three Supreme Court Justices to the Practice of Law and Counselor, an accomplishment never to be forgotten.


He chose his clientele that were primarily indigent. As a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1945, he has been a Knight for 77 years and a Sir Knight for 51 years. He was given the prestigious Century Club Award, served at the State Level of the Knights of Columbus and was recognized with many other distinguished awards at both the local and state levels.


Member of St. Gerard Catholic Parish since 1961, John participated in many activities including teaching Religious Education classes, training altar servers, serving on Commissions of the Parish, and was a strong supporter of Right to Life. He also volunteered for many years at both St. Gerard School and Lansing Catholic Central High School, where he became known as “Grandpa De Rose” to many, following in the footsteps of his father, also known to St. Gerard students as crossing guard “Grandpa De Rose”.


In retirement, John volunteered his time at Capital Region International Airport and L. O. Eye Care.

Married in August of 1952, John and Norma celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2022. Proud parents of three children, Teresa (Carl) Frassetto, John (Jessie) and Paul (Heather), six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday January 3, 2023 at St Gerard Catholic Church, Fr Mark Martin presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior at the Church. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery.
